Making Money from web sites

Anybody who can build a web site really can make money. I can say this with certainty because I have done it myself.

How much money can be earned?

The money I earned in my first eight months attempting to make money on the internet was spent taking my wife on a week long five star luxury holiday in the Maldives. look in a travel brochure and do the maths yourself.

One year after starting my monthly cheque covered my mortgage.

How did you make money?

by selling advertising space.

How does web site advertising work?

Web site advertising works in one of four ways:

Fixed fee is when an advertiser places a banner or text ad on a site and pays the site owner for the privilege.

Pay per view is where a record is kept of how many times an ad is seen and the advertiser pays a fee for each view

Pay per click is the option most advertisers prefer. The site owner is only paid when an ad is clicked by a visitor.

Pay per sale is a useful alternative to pay per click. The number of individual earnings will be lower but ammount per earning will be substantially higher. Affiliate Future are a good example.

Which form of advertising is best?

Each has advantages and disadvantages. However, nowadays almost all schemes are pay per click so this is the one we will focus on.

Pay per click web site advertising

When visitors click on the pay per click adverts the webmaster gets paid.

The actual amount varies between about 3 cents and a couple of dollars. Most clicks are definitely closer to the 3 cent mark.

Three cents? That's not enough!

Well, on its own, three cents is just three cents. Every day out on the web there are literally billions of pages getting viewed. Some of those people end up on my pages (just like you did) and some of those people click the ads.

Although I only get a few pennies per click, if I got tens of thousands of clicks it equates to hundreds of dollars per day.

How many clicks can I get?

Depends on how much work you want to put in. I have a full time job already so the web advertising thing is nothing more than a hobby for me.

Look at your current web site's log stats. Are you getting tens of thousands of visits? If so, then you just need to place advertising on the pages and watch the money roll in.

If you are not happy with the number of visits you are getting, well then you will need to put some work in. You can get better visitor numbers, to make sure you have lots of visits which equals lots of potential clicks and lots of potential cash.

I already get good visitor numbers, take me straight to the advertising information?

How do I increase the number of visitors to my web site?

This website is hosted by oneandone webhosting. I use their 'Business Hosting' package which is cheap but has never given me a day's concern since I started using it in 1999.
